Story

A goldsmith’s nephew, Sanju, struggles to realise his dreams. Will he succeed?

Review

Sanju (Arjun Ashokan) is the nephew of goldsmith Krishnan (Vijayaraghavan). He is a talented artist and has been pursuing IAS for six years, while he and his carefree friends also do odd jobs to get by. Life takes a turn for these youths when Sanju falls in love with Athira (Priyamvada), the daughter of a wealthy jeweller (Siddique). Krishnan sets up a jewellery shop for Sanju, so that he can settle down, though before the inauguration of the shop an unfortunate incident changes his life and that of his family and friends. How they overcome all obstacles makes the story of Thattassery Koottam.

Dilieep’s brother Anoop Padmanabhan, makes his directorial debut with a story that resembles old Malayalam movies, such as Malarvadi Arts Club. What works for this film is that it is light-hearted, with neither too much sentimental stress, nor too many exciting moments. Anoop keeps it short and simple. Shot in and around Aluva, it shows the beauty of the area, the Shiva temple and the Kochi metro.

Arjun Asokan looks nice as a carefree youth, and his mannerisms, where he imitates other Malayalam actors, were good. Priyamvada Krishna has nothing much to do and doesn’t come across as a natural actress.
